What Dreams Are For – An Original Song
Hello, dear readers.
I hope you’re well and doing okay through this crazy time! I’m definitely thankful that I get to be with my family while we’re all trying to stay home. It makes it much easier to keep on keeping on having people I love here to talk to.
What’s something you’re thankful for during all this craziness?
I wanted to share a song I wrote about wrestling with dreams not going how you want them to. As I started this post, I realized that the topic really could apply to what’s going on right now! Haha, I guess it’s a good day to share it!
I hope you enjoy the song and that it encourages you.
Stay safe, and I’ll talk to you soon!
What Dreams Are For
Verse One
Pinned my hopes into the future, all the daring things I’d do
Guess I should have practiced sooner, though, ‘cause now the future’s coming through
Told myself that I’d have room to grow
But nothing’s really happened, happened, happened
Pre-Chorus
When I was younger, I had all these plans
Of colored lights and caravans
But now I’m older, and I’m losing hold
Maybe it’s time to let it go
Chorus
‘Cause I’m still here, still standing on the shore
I’m watching all these dreams set sail without me
I’m still here, can’t do this anymore
I’m picking up the pieces, but most days I don’t know what dreams are for
Verse 2
Heard a song on the radio, said I couldn’t live without you
Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever know if there’s a you out there for me
If I’m honest, baby, I don’t know
Sometimes I start to doubt you, doubt you, doubt you
Pre-Chorus
When I was younger, I had all these dreams
Of love and risk and crazy things
But now I’m older; I’m losing hold.
Maybe it’s time to let it go
CHORUS
Bridge
When I was younger,
I had all these plans
Of colored lights
But now I’m older,
I’m losing hold
Maybe it’s time
— Guitar Solo —
Picking up the pieces
Picking up the pieces
Double Chorus
‘Cause I’m still here, still standing on the shore
I’m watching all these dreams set sail without me
I’m still here, can’t do this anymore
And all my hopes and dreams have started doubting
I’m still here, am I the only one who’s stranded?
Been waiting my whole life for things to change the way I planned them.
I’m still here; Don’t know what I’m waiting for
I’m picking up the pieces, but maybe that’s what dreams are for
