Through The Door – An Original Song

Hello!

How are you?

We’re in Hungry Horse, Montana. This morning, we went horseback riding on a trail ride. (I found the ride rather ironic, because my horse, Waylon, kept eating along the way. Get it — Hungry Horse?) 😀 It was a wonderful experience.

I would love to share a song I wrote with you, called “Through The Door.”

It was written in the camper using Micah’s guitar, and it’s super fun to play.

I hope you like it!

A fun story about the song: I was outside, videoing myself playing it, and one of the employees here at the campground saw me and invited me to do a “concert” in the campground! The whole family’s going to perform tonight together!

Through The Door

Ellie Cummins

Verse One

So much is broken now in your quiet world
And words were spoken how a weapon would be hurled
And I’m not saying that their angry words were meant to say
But there never should have been a time when you felt you had to shut yourself away

Chorus

Cause there’s no one anymore
Brave enough to knock on your door
Cause you’ve barred the front porch
And you’ve thrown away the key

I thought that since I came here before
Forgave enough to knock on your door
Close enough your coldness could scorch
Maybe somehow you’d see

Verse Two

So much unspoken now through this quiet door
I want to help somehow – you’re shredded to the core
And I’m not saying that you’re going to come out fine
But there never should have been a time when I stopped helping you try

Chorus

Cause there’s no one anymore
Brave enough to knock on your door
Cause you’ve barred the front porch
And you’ve thrown away the key

I thought that since I came here before
Forgave enough to knock on your door
Close enough your coldness could scorch
Maybe somehow you’d see

Bridge

Can you hear the words that I am singing?
Behind your closed doors are you listening?

Chorus

Cause there’s no one anymore
Brave enough to knock on your door
Cause you’ve barred the front porch
And you’ve thrown away the key

Until you heal, I’ll come ’till you’re sure
There’s a way to open the door
You don’t have to bar your front porch

I will help you find the key

I hope you have a lovely evening!
