Person You Play

Person You Play

Hey, Everyone!

How was your Valentine’s Day?

Mine was terrific! Micah got Anna and me flowers and arranged them himself in glass vases, and Mom gave us chocolate, which happens to be a favorite of mine. 😛

Person You Play

I’m here with a song, today.

In fact, it’s one of the first bluesy songs I’ve ever written!

I’d love for you to take a look (and listen)!

Person You Play

Ellie Cummins

Verse 1:

Just another morning where the sun has risen up.

Just another morning where you know you’ve got to get up.

And without the warning you know that people, they don’t care.

They say to be yourself as long as you don’t need help there.

And you are so tired of always being someone else,

But you’ve got to get up.

Yes, you’ve got to get up.

Chorus:

So put on your best face and a smile for the day,

‘Cause they don’t know you got troubles ’til you give them away.

Put on your best act and say you’re O.K.,

‘Cause they don’t know who you are, just the person you play.

Verse 2:

Just another morning where the sun has risen up.

Just another morning where you’ve got to, got to get up.

And you are so tired of every day being just the same:

Nobody remembering your name,

Everybody’s leaving where they came.

But you’ve got to get up,

You’ve got to get up.

Chorus:

So put on your best face and a smile for the day,

‘Cause they don’t know you got troubles ’til you give them away.

Put on your best act and say you’re O.K.,

‘Cause they don’t know who you are, just the person you play.

So put on your best face, and a smile for the day,

‘Cause they don’t know who you are, just the person you play.

What do you think? Do you like the “bluesy” feel?

  1. Oh yeah! This is great and bluesy for sure, and I’m really feelin’ it! Love the transition to the chorus – lots happier! Thanks for sharing this, Ellie!

  2. Wow, very well put together song, Ellie. Love the piano parts and the chorus- your voice- everything. Very cool. 👍

  3. Great song. I don’t know much about music (except what my ear likes, of course) but you seem to be able to move into all kinds of music successfully. Especially like the up tone of chorus but the lyrics are very good. Great presentation. Can you just whip off a song very quickly? Love you bunches. G’ma

    1. Most of the songs I write are created in a sitting or two (I get into it, and that zones in my focus and speeds up the process!). This song was actually written as I was looking for a verse for another song I’m writing! It stemmed out of a melody/lyric I liked and wanted to use, but didn’t fit with the other song. Glad I got to use it! Love you lots! 😉
