A Thousand Miles

A Thousand Miles

Hey and Howdy!

How are you today?

While we were driving down to South Carolina during our move, Dad mentioned something about being “a thousand miles away” from our house in Massachusetts.

For some reason, that struck just the right chord in my head and I began to write a song.

I asked Anna to sing the other part, and have started to figure out a piano part for it.

I still don’t know where Anna gets her big, grown-up voice from, but she sure sounds good!

A Thousand Miles

My home is in the mountains high.

A thousand miles away.

My heart is where the summits lie.

A thousand miles away.

For in those hills my loved one lies.

A thousand miles away.

And all that’s in me now, it cries.

A thousand miles away.

My love is buried in the earth.

A thousand miles away.

The grave, it marks my living’s worth.

A thousand miles away.

A thousand miles away.

My heart, it lies beside my love.

A thousand miles away.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks,
Ellie 🙂

  1. I love it, Ellie! You have such a gift….and Anna’s voice blends so nicely with yours. I love singing with my sister. I hope you are all settled in – miss you guys already! The new people next door have a dog and it’s so strange to hear barking coming from inside the house!!

    1. Thank you so much, Mrs. Kristine! Oh, that must be so strange! Our neighborhood here is so quiet – I miss seeing your daycare kids getting dropped off and all of the hustle and bustle of Stanton! 😀

  2. Ellie, your soprano is so beautiful! I think Anna has a grown up voice because she has heard you all singing her entire life!

  3. This is beautiful Ellie!! You’re so amazing at writing songs and singing, and everything creative! I think Anna must’ve gotten her grown up voice from you 🙂 I love the piano and the harmonizing at the end of it too!!
